Paravur Thampuran, a strong devotee of Godess Mookambika was a frequenter of Kollur Mookambika temle( Karnataka). When ill health made him unable to make journeys, and ailing Thampuran prayed to Godess for blessing to construct Mookambika temple at Paravur. Thus this temple was build about 500 years ago and it is a belief that offering prayers in dakshina mookambiaka is equivalent to offer prayers in Kollur mookambika .This is the only Mookambika temple in Kerala under Travancore Devasam Board. The main poojas here are performed by the thanthris of Puliyanoor mana in Tripunithura.
